Kitchen Scrubby Pattern

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

I started making kitchen scrubbies about a year ago. I started with Red Heart Scrubby Yarn.. That was a major flop. I hated to love it. I loved the scrubbiness but hated actually working with it. I would bunch up, break, and just get all tangled which made me super frustrated constantly. And, IMHO (in my honest opinion), they freaking sucked. I felt like I was going to rip right through them when I was scrubbing a pot or pan. Wasn't a good feeling for sure. And they seemed to always have a dank stank even if I washed them by hand, by machine, or in the dishwasher...... Not freaking cool dude.....

My hubs and I went to Hobby Lobby, of course before this crazy Covid-19 pandemic hit, looking for just some worsted weight yarn for an amigurumi I was making. I was showing him the different weights, textures and materials that yarn could be made from when we stumbled across the scrubby yarn section. I was like OMG what is this other yarn?! It's smooth but durable. It's pretty yet strong. Hobby Lobby's in house brand - Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology - Scrub It! SOLD! I bought a few skeins and away I went -- Here's the results!!

Freaking crazy right!! Great yarn. 100% Nylon and uber easy to work with.

I placed them up for sale on my Etsy site and completely sold out of all of them..... Every. Single. One. I was flabberghasted and completely under prepared! Waited a few weeks to get the yarn back in (since Covid-19 put a damper on going straight to the store)... And I am back in business!!

I thought that I would love to share the yarn and the pattern that I've been using for these Kitchen Scrubbies of mine. So keep scrolling and you'll find the pattern below!

Kitchen Scrubby Pattern

- J-10/6mm hook -> I used the one from this set The Hook Nook - I bought them from Joann Fabrics before the Covid-19

- Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology - Scrub It! - From Hobby Lobby - I can make about 4-5 scrubbies from one skein

- Yarn Needle - bought these guys from Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon :)

Stitches used:

- mr - magic ring

- dc - double crochet

- sc - single crochet

- st - stitch

- sl st - slip stitch

- ch - chain

**Make two of these for front and back of the scrubby**

Begin with mr, ch3, place 12 dc into mr, sl st to ch3 (12)

ch3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st, sl st to ch3 (24)

Fasten off and weave in ends really well because this scrubby will be used an abused :)

Place both front and back WRONG SIDES FACING IN (you can do it any way you'd like, I just prefer the way this looks when it's finished)

With a sl st on your hook, insert your hook into the front and back scrubbies through both loops and ch1

sc in each stitch around the outside of the scrubbies, sl st to first sc (24)

Fasten off and weave in ends really well because this scrubby will be used an abused :)

TADA!!!!! Scrubby done!!

I'm looking into making a premium version with more abrasive fibers intertwined!! I've got something in the works and will be sending out test scrubbies in the following weeks :)

Stay tuned for more #patterns

Much love <3
